Super Story
Super Story is a television drama series created by Wale Adenuga who published the magazine on which the programme is based. The hugely-popular series about the lives of middle-class Nigerians is currently shown on NTA and Wap TV every Thursday by 8:00 pm and airs on several other terrestrial and cable networks at a later time. The TV series has been on air since 2001.
Fuji House of Commotion
Fuji House of Commotion is a sitcom produced and directed by the late Amaka Igwe. The sitcom revolves around Chief Fuji who is married to four women and had numerous kids to provide for. The show was a spin-off of the 90s soap opera ‘Checkmate’. It stars Kunle Bamtefa, Toun Oni, Ngozi Nwosu, Louisa Onu, Ireti Doyle, Jude Orhoha, John Njamah and Chika Chukwu, among others.
Everyday People
Produced by Tajudeen Adepetu, Everyday People revolved around the daily lives of families in an urban society. The show featured the late Sam Loco Efe, Carol King, Ify Onwuemene, Seun Soremi, Juliet Martin-Abazie, Ignis Ekwe, among others.
Papa Ajasco
Another creation of Wale Adenuga, Papa Ajasco was initially a comic strip in the 80s which turned out to be very successful. After an initial movie in 1983, Wale Adenuga adapted the slapstick comedy for TV in 1996.
Checkmate
Millions of Nigerians were drawn to ‘Checkmate’ when it held sway in the 90s as one of the top TV series in the country. Created by Amaka Igwe, it starred an ensemble cast of Richard Mofe-Damijo, Bob Manuel Udokwu, Nobert Young and Kunle Bamtefa.
Cock Crow at Dawn
A weekly TV series aired on NTA, Cock Crow at Dawn was meant to increase the awareness of farming as a profitable investment among Nigerians. It was created and written by former NTA DG, Peter Igho, while the theme song was written by Bongos Ikwe. The series ran for 104 episodes before going off the air.
Village Headmaster
One of the most iconic Nigerian TV series of all time, Village Headmaster ran for two decades, making it the longest-running series aired on the NTA. The Village Headmaster featured icons such as the late Justis Esiri, Dejumo Lewis, Funsho Adeolu, and Enebeli Elebuwa.
Tales By Moonlight
Created by Victoria Ezeokoli, Tales by Moonlight was aimed at promoting African folktales. Initially presented by a lady, Jimmy Solanke would later handle the show.
New Masquerade
The 30-minute show featuring Chika Okpala, Lizzy Evoeme, Claude Eke, James Iroha, and David Ofor entertained millions of Nigerians every Tuesday night from 8:30 pm – 9:00 pm. The New Masquerade is one of Nigeria’s most beloved TV shows with an iconic theme song and unforgettable characters.
Palace
The soap opera which was centred around a wealthy family was the brainchild of Tunji Bamishigbin and Ralph Nwadike. It starred Liz Benson, Foluke Daramola, among others.
Ripples
The soap opera produced by Zeb Ejiro ran for five years interrupted. It starred the likes of Patrick Doyle, Genvieve Nnaji, among others.
